There’s a funny rhythm to this job that you only notice after a few decades in it. Come winter, the phone starts to ring with the same call – a drain that’s gurgling, a shower that’s draining slow, a smell coming up from the yard that wasn’t there last week. Every year, like clockwork.

And nearly every time, when we get there, the homeowner says the same thing: “You know, it’s been doing that for a little while now.”

I get it. A slow drain isn’t an emergency – until the morning it is. Life’s busy, and a bit of a gurgle is easy to put in the “I’ll deal with it later” basket. But that gurgle is the drain doing you a favour. It’s the early warning, weeks before the backyard floods or the toilet backs up on a Sunday. The folks who catch it early save themselves a lot of mess, and usually a fair bit of money too.

That’s really the whole idea behind why we write these. My grandfather started this business on the Coast back in the 1950s, and three generations on, the thing that hasn’t changed is that we’d genuinely rather help you avoid the big job than turn up for it.
